About Bridget Garrity

I am absolutely passionate about introducing girls (ages 11-16) to the wonders of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and showcasing and celebrating women already succeeding in these fields. I have combined these to ideas and foundeded STEM Sisterhood (www.stemsisterhood.com). Through this (virtual) platform, I hope to inspire many young minds to bring their talents to careers in these fields and to prompt women working in STEM fields to encourage, support and challenge each other.

Across the Ocean, but on the Same Wavelength "“I wanted to create a new way that we talk about science, and the lives of scientists – in particular female scientists. Rather than hearing about the skills needed, the work hours, and the qualifications – I wanted to share the interests, the ups, the downs of [...]

(The following is a guest blog by STEM Sister Emily Paszkiewicz)   Though I had never seen myself as a science-minded person, my experiences in high school have motivated me to become an engineer. My initial exposure to the subject was during a summer school course through Johns Hopkins University. The class, “Engineering Innovation” (http://engineering.jhu.edu/ei/) was [...]

Inspiring 11-Year-Old: RoboGabby "During this past Summer (2016), I signed up for an all girls robotics camp that was being offered by my school...they cancelled the camp because not enough girls signed up. My dad found other robotics camps for me to attend, but, there were only about 4 girls who participated... I constantly asked [...]

Not Just Another Pretty Face "It was very evident to me that the female students at Caltech were excelling just as well as their male counterparts and were also displaying innate talent and academic brilliance. If anything this gender gap really just spurs me on, I wanna show people that women can ‘do science’ too." [...]

The Formula to Get Girls & Young Women into STEM

By | October, 7 2016|Categories: STEM Sisterhood General|Tags: , , , |

Awareness + Belief + Connection = STEM Sisterhood As the founder of STEM Sisterhood, I am continually thinking about how to get more girls and women interested in science, technology, engineering and math.  For some reason, I always come back to  A + B + C or Awareness + Belief + Connection.  I truly believe that girls and [...]

Faces of STEM…Today

By | August, 14 2016|Categories: STEM Sisterhood General|Tags: , |

The faces of STEM - science, technology, engineering and math are changing.  There are still way fewer women in most of these fields, but progress has been made. I recently came across a fascinating photo which captured my attention. The photograph is of Albert Einstein and  5 other prominent scientists taken in the early 1930's. (see [...]
