The faces of STEM – science, technology, engineering and math are changing.  There are still way fewer women in most of these fields, but progress has been made.

I recently came across a fascinating photo which captured my attention. The photograph is of Albert Einstein and  5 other prominent scientists taken in the early 1930’s. (see below)

When I found this picture, I immediately recognized the background.  It was the Athenaeum – at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). I have been blessed to spend time working in a chemistry lab at Caltech and have immense respect for the institute and its rich history.

Soon, I got the idea of “updating” the photo with some of my STEM Sisters.  We gathered outside the Athenaeum and here was the result…

STEM Sisterhood Smiling

With no disrespect to Mr. Einstein and his colleagues, I hope this is a fun way to show what STEM Sisterhood is all about.  The faces are changing and the barriers are breaking down.  Who knows if any of us will win a Nobel prize, but we can follow in the footsteps of the great men (and women) who have gone before us.

STEM Sisterhood (http://www.stemsisterhood.com) is a virtual platform founded to build STEM awareness in girls and young women by showcasing talented and inspiring women already succeeding in STEM fields.
